Majara Complex and Community Redevelopment – Zav Architects

Designed by ZAV Architects, Majara Complex and Community Redevelopment is located on Hormuz Island, Iran. The project brings together accommodation and shared facilities in a cluster of colourful domes built using the superadobe technique and locally sourced materials. It forms part of a wider initiative to support the local community and strengthen the island’s economy.

Commissioned by the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, Deed Studio photographed the project, focusing on the domes’ forms, colours and textures, their relationship with the surrounding landscape, and the connection between the architecture and its users.

Majara Complex and Community Redevelopment was one of the winners of the 2025 Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
